Film Damage

Damage brings all the artifacts that come with scanning film: Dust, Fine Dust, Hairs, Scratches and Stains.

The marks sit on the film, so their color depends on it. On a color negative, dust and hairs show white. Scratches turn yellow, then red, then black as they get deeper. On slide film, or with no film stock, dust shows black. Scratches turn blue, then cyan, then white. Stains are brown marks and water rings on any film.

Strength sets how strong all the marks are. New Variation creates a new random set with the same settings.

Each kind of damage has its own section. Density sets how many marks there are. Size sets how big they are. Strength sets how strong that kind is. Dust is larger flakes. Fine Dust is the fine powder you see up close.

The marks go through the same scanner simulation as the grain, so they look slightly soft. The preview and the export show the same marks. On video, the dust changes every frame and the long scratches stay in place.
