Film(ish) is a photo and video editor that runs entirely on your device.
This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data.
Plain English, no fine print.
What Film(ish) does not do
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
We do not require an account, sign-in, or registration.
We do not track you across apps or websites.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
We do not upload your photos, videos, or edits to any server. The one
exception is described in Sharing presets below: when
you choose to share a preset as a link, the preset's settings
and a small thumbnail are uploaded so the link can render a preview.
What Film(ish) accesses on your device
Photo library. With your permission, the app reads
photos and videos you choose to import for editing, and writes edited
copies back to your library when you export. These files never leave
your device through Film(ish). iOS controls this access; you can
revoke it at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos.
File timestamps and disk space. Declared as required-
reason APIs in the app's privacy manifest. Used to order recent edits
and to check whether an export has room to succeed.
In-App Purchase
Film(ish) offers a one-time purchase (Film(ish) Pro) through Apple's
StoreKit. Apple processes the purchase and receipt on device; Film(ish)
itself does not see your Apple ID, payment details, or any personal
information. Apple's own privacy policy covers that transaction.
Share Extension
The share extension receives files you share into Film(ish) from other
apps. Those files are handled the same way as photos you import directly
— entirely on device.
Sharing presets
Film(ish) lets you share a preset (a saved combination of edit settings)
with another person. A shared preset always carries a
thumbnail image as its preview — by default that thumbnail is
generated from the photo you saved the preset from, so anyone who
receives the link or file can see what the preset looked like on your
photo. You can opt out of this in the share sheet (see "Share without
thumbnail" below).
There are two transport methods, with different privacy properties:
As a file (AirDrop, Messages-as-attachment, Mail,
Save to Files). The preset travels device-to-device. Nothing
is uploaded to a server. Film(ish) collects nothing. The thumbnail is
embedded in the file itself, so the recipient still sees the preview.
As a link (Messages, social media, Copy as link). To
give the link a preview card, Film(ish) uploads the preset to
filmish.app, which is hosted on
Vercel. What gets uploaded:
The preset name you typed.
The preset settings (numeric values like grain amount, contrast,
film stock — no personal information).
The preset's thumbnail image (the same image embedded in the
file). By default this is rendered from the photo you saved the
preset from and is visible to anyone who has the link.
Anyone with the link can view the preview and import the preset. We
delete shared presets automatically after 180 days. Standard server
logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) apply when the link is
opened or fetched. Shared presets are not linked to your identity, are
not used for advertising, and are not used for tracking.
Share without thumbnail. The share sheet has a toggle
labelled Share without thumbnail. When it's on, Film(ish)
replaces your photo's thumbnail with one generated by applying the
preset to a generic reference image bundled with the app — your photo
never leaves the device, and the recipient sees only what the preset
looks like on the reference image. Everything else (preset name,
settings, transport, retention) is unchanged. This option works for
both file and link sharing.
Children
Film(ish) is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly
collect any information from anyone. Because no data is collected, the
app is safe for use by users of any age subject to Apple's age rating.
